About The Book
Prayers change things. Prayers change people. Prayers change.
There is a long-standing oral Black prayer tradition. Also, there is a much shorter written Black prayer tradition. This book is a contribution to the collection of literary Black prayers and is written in the spirit of scholars such as Dr. James Melvin Washington, Dr Howard Thurman, and Dr. W. E. B. DuBois. The prayers in this collection cover a wide range of issues including personal, social, political and historical. Many of the prayers, in line with the biblical ethos, blend personal concerns and prophetic social insights.
